Healthy Eating, Active Living

Making healthy food choices and being physically active can start early in life.  When these habits are instilled in our children early, studies have shown that they will last a lifetime. Leading a healthy active lifestyle can be fun for the whole family.

Activities like playing soccer, going for a hike and playing at the park are an inexpensive way to help both adults and children meet their daily physical activity requirements. Making healthy choices over a lifetime, reduces the risk of developing chronic diseases later in life, such as heart disease and cancer. Our goal is to collaborate with community partners to help promote active living and healthy eating and create environments supportive of living a healthy lifestyle.

It's Picnic Day Potter English version

[00:00] Today's story is brought to you by Polly Pineapple. It's a picnic day, Potter story by Mary Beth Bowles, illustrated by Jenny Ho. Raindrops float and raindrops plucked. Potter asked, "When will it stop?" Mom said, "Potter, it's okay. The picnic said Saturday. By then, the clouds will blow away and all your friends will come to play. So pack that round and let's head out."

[00:37] There's lots of picnic food about. Potter chose the whole wheat bread. "Here's turkey, cheese and fruit," he said. "Veggies, yogurt, beans and water." "That's healthy food," said Dad to Potter. The sun came up on Saturday. "Mom and Dad, it's time to play skunk." Moose, Toad and Kangaroo had balls and games to play with too. They kicked the cart.

[00:58] They ran, they threw. "Toss it here. Call kangaroo." Potter looked for his friend Goose. "Have you seen him?" "No," said Moose. Finally it was time to eat. Veggies, fruit and good lean meat. And a bottle filled with water. "Here's your drink," said Mom to Potter. "How about a rest beneath this tree? I'll read to you." "You read to me?"

[01:20] Later, Potter dozed a bit until Schanke said, "Now you're at a game of tag. A splash slide. A tunnel where they all could hide. Let's make this jungle gym our shift. The water's deep. Try not to slip." When the sun was sinking low, Mom called out, "It's time to go." Then Goose called up, "I'm over here." Potter hugged Goose and gave a cheer.

[01:44] "Come, look at Goose, and now you will see. The big news is my growing family. Eggs have hatched, one then another. Potter, I'm a proud big brother." "Yeah," said Potter to his friend. "The owl can come when we picnic again. The end has."
