Code of Professional Ethics
-
- As a member of this Agency’s professional staff, or as a volunteer/student placement, I will place the welfare of our clients/residents/patients and their families above all other concerns.
- I will deliver kind and humane care regardless of race, creed, age, or sexual preference.
- I will not deliberately do harm to a client/resident/patient, either physically or psychologically. I will not verbally assault, ridicule, attempt to subjugate or endanger a client/resident/patient, nor will I allow others to do so.
- I will urge changes in the lives of clients only on their behalf and in the interest of promoting recovery. I will not impose my own values on them.
- I will remain aware of my own skills and limitations, and will not give advice outside my expertise. I will refer clients when it is in their best interest.
- I will not exploit clients in any way—sexually, financially, physically, or socially.
- I will not use my authority over clients for personal needs. I will promote their independence, not dependence on me.
- I will not share client information except as required by treatment or with proper authorization.
- I agree to uphold all Agency policies protecting clients from harm, including rights, privacy, and protection from abuse.
- I agree to respect other professionals and seek consultation when needed on behalf of clients.
- I understand therapeutic relationships do not end when treatment ends. I will continue to act in the client’s best interest if any further relationship develops.
- I will be a responsible role model in my use of alcohol or mood-altering drugs. If in recovery, I will maintain abstinence during my service.
- I understand this is a drug-free workplace and agree not to come to work impaired by any substance.
- I will not ignore illness or unethical conduct in colleagues. I will report concerns as needed.
- I will report misconduct or information that compromises the integrity of the program to my supervisor.
- I accept responsibility for my ongoing education and professional development.
- I agree not to manufacture, possess, or use controlled substances in the workplace. Doing so may lead to termination.
- I will not distribute controlled substances unless licensed and legally permitted to do so.
- I will not sexually harass anyone connected with the Agency. I understand this is illegal and subject to disciplinary action.
- I will not smoke in County facilities or vehicles. I understand this is against law and County policy.
- I will accurately document and code my work activities to ensure proper and honest billing.
- I agree to report any questionable billing or suspected fraud. I will comply with all rules and regulations.
- I will work collaboratively with others. I will avoid gossip, racism, and sexism, and report such behavior to my supervisor.
